Psychiatric Hospitals Now Have a Choice on Who They Partner With for Their Accreditation

Standalone psychiatric facilities now have a choice when it comes to their deemed accreditation. DNV Healthcare received its deeming authority for psychiatric facilities from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in August 2020.

Since 2007, DNV Healthcare has accredited more than 600 acute care and critical access hospitals across the United States. It is now using the same rigorous approach to accredit psychiatric hospitals, based on the ISO 9001 quality management control system and an emphasis on continuous improvement through risk-based thinking. And while being committed to ensuring patients are safe and receiving the highest quality of care, DNV’s survey process is non-prescriptive, leaving hospital management to make their own decisions about how to improve operations.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand DNV’s unique approach to healthcare certification and continuous quality improvement and how it differs from other accrediting organizations
  • Learn how ISO 9001 is applied to psychiatric hospital operations
  • Understand about the relationship developed between the hospital and DNV surveyors that enhances the learning process and makes continual improvement easier and more enjoyable.
