DNV was one of the first class societies to develop advanced software for directly calculating a ship’s structural strength. We are also still in the lead with a variety of tools supporting rule checks and the advanced analysis of ship structures.

Nauticus Early Design (NED) is a 3D information system for ship building. It is a combined CAD and Analysis system that focuses on the early stages of design and enables ship designers to perform Contract design and Classification design faster and better, based on a common product model.

The new IACS Common Structural Rules (CSR) introduce a radical shift towards more computerisation of the rule formulations and structural assessment. Hence, good software support is critical in order for any Class to provide timely and rational support to shipowners as well as to designers and shipbuilders. In response to this, DNV’s well established Nauticus Hull® program has undergone a major upgrade to provide efficient support for design and verification according to CSR as well as the DNV Rules for other ship types.

An increased demand for tonnage, combined with a more distributed design and production process and a scarcity of experienced people, has made special demands on shipbuilders. DNV has developed Nauticus Construction to help yard and owners follow up and document newbuilding and conversion projects from design to delivery.
