The growing demand for energy implies a constant need for innovation. Through our involvement with the energy industry, DNV is developing new technologies, methodologies and competences.
DNV has always focused on renewing our knowledge and setting new standards. We issued our first principles for offshore drilling platforms in 1970, and have since issued a large number of new and revised codes. Most of the work is done through joint industry projects. A number of exciting ongoing projects are helping the industry to safely and responsibly improve their business performance. The projects focus on the following segments:

Standards speed up innovation
DNV’s core philosophy is that technology development and knowledge sharing increase innovation and safety. So when the industry is facing challenges, the best way of solving these is for industry players to join forces through Joint Industry Projects (JIPs). DNV releases a new set of Offshore Standards for mooring systems
In response to recent research and development work and the industry’s operational experiences with mooring systems, DNV has now released a complete set of Offshore Standards covering systems design, materials, product quality, certification requirements and the fabrication process.

The increase in exploration and production activities in deep waters has made the use of steel wire ropes as segments in mooring systems more common. This trend has motivated DNV and industry partners to issue a new steel wire rope mooring standard.
